In a significant legal development, the BRS Working President and former Minister K. Tarakarama Rao (KTR) has been hit with summons by the Special ACB Court in Nampally. The court has taken cognizance of a 250-page charge sheet filed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds in the Hyderabad Formula E race. Along with KTR, senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar, former HMDA Chief Engineer B.L.N. Reddy, and two others have been ordered to appear personally before the judge on July 31.
The case centers on the alleged illegal diversion of approximately ₹55 crore to foreign entities for the 2024 Formula E race. According to the ACB charge sheet, these funds were transferred without the necessary approval from the State Cabinet or the Finance Department. Investigations suggest that the transactions were carried out based on verbal instructions from KTR, who served as the Municipal Administration Minister at the time. The legal pressure on KTR has intensified now that the Governor and the Central Government have granted permission for his prosecution.
The issuance of summons by the court indicates that the judiciary is satisfied with the existence of prima facie evidence against the accused. When KTR appears in court on July 31, he will be provided with copies of the charge sheet, at which point he may apply for bail or move to quash the allegations. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also stepped in to investigate potential money laundering and foreign exchange violations, turning this into a high-stakes political battle between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS in Telangana.
