Do Not Label Him as Sachin’s Successor: Dinesh Karthik on 15-Year-Old Prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has strongly advised cricket enthusiasts and the media against comparing 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi with legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Karthik emphasized that loading the exceptionally talented young cricketer with unnecessary baggage through premature comparisons is unhelpful, noting that the modern challenges the youngster will encounter are unique. He expressed that labeling Suryavanshi as “Sachin’s successor” at this early stage in his career is completely uncalled for.

Playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, the young left-handed opening batter has taken the tournament by storm, amassing 579 runs across 13 matches to emerge as a top scorer. What has particularly drawn widespread attention from the global cricket community is his explosive batting approach, characterized by a phenomenal strike rate of 236.32. This aggressive performance at such a tender age has catalyzed intense discussions regarding his future prospects in the international circuit.

Speaking on the iQOO Quest Talk podcast, Karthik, who currently serves as the batting coach and mentor for the defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), stated that while Suryavanshi’s batting display is special, people must refrain from tagging him with Tendulkar’s legacy. He explained that what Sachin achieved was monumental and that the young opener’s challenges will be vastly different. Karthik pointed out that while Tendulkar managed intense pressure both on and off the field, Suryavanshi’s greatest tests will likely lie outside the boundary lines, navigating non-sporting distractions rather than managing his natural cricketing skills on the pitch.
