Beyond Physical Borders to Cyber and Cognitive Domains
Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan stated that future warfare will no longer be confined to the traditional realms of land, sea, and air. Speaking at the inauguration of the NIBE Defense Manufacturing Complex in Shirdi, Maharashtra, the CDS emphasized that upcoming global conflicts will heavily expand into cyber and cognitive (knowledge-based) domains. He explained that modern battlefields are transcending geographical boundaries, meaning that the secure control of information networks and digital architecture will play an identical, if not greater, role than conventional military deployments.
Technical Adaptation as the Ultimate Strategic Advantage
General Chauhan highlighted that military supremacy will depend directly on a nation’s capacity for technological innovation and rapid implementation. He noted that next-generation conflicts will be dictated by autonomous systems, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced robotics, and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). Reflecting on the venue, the CDS remarked that Shirdi, globally revered as a center of spiritual faith, is now transitioning into a vital hub for industrial defense manufacturing, creating a unique intersection of spiritual heritage and futuristic technology.
India’s Rapid Rise in Defense Production and Exports
The event underscored India’s substantial strides toward self-reliance in regional aerospace and defense production. General Chauhan revealed that India’s domestic defense production value has surged to approximately ₹1.27 lakh crore, with defense exports crossing a historic milestone of ₹38,000 crore, reaching over 100 countries. He called upon young engineers and innovators to anchor the “Viksit Bharat” vision through indigenous development. The high-profile defense congregation also saw the participation of Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
