The Telangana Police have intensified surveillance on foreign nationals working as domestic helps across the state, with a particular focus on individuals from Nepal. DGP C.V. Anand has directed senior police officials to compile a comprehensive database containing the complete credentials and backgrounds of these foreign domestic workers. This proactive security measures comes in the wake of a recent spike in organized crimes and robberies involving domestic help networks, making data-driven policing a top priority.
The stringent orders were issued during a high-level review meeting chaired by the DGP. Security concerns escalated significantly after a shocking incident in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, where a retired IPS officer’s wife was murdered and robbed of cash and jewelry, with the involvement of a Nepali domestic help and her accomplices being confirmed. In another recent case, a Nepali couple drugged their employers before fleeing with valuable assets. Such recurring criminal patterns have prompted the police department to take strict preventive action.
Under the state’s ongoing ‘Mee Suraksha’ initiative, the police have already profiled over 39,000 domestic workers, out of which nearly 1,200 have been identified as Nepalese nationals. The DGP emphasized that capturing precise residential, employment, and biometric details of foreign workers will enable effective tracking and swift investigation in case of anomalies. Furthermore, the police department has strongly advised house owners to mandatorily conduct thorough police verification and background checks before hiring any new domestic staff.
