Good News for TGSRTC Employees: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar Announces 11% Fitment and Welfare Measures

In a major relief to the employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced a 11% fitment (salary hike) starting July 1, 2026. The announcement fulfills a key promise made during the previous RTC strike. The decision was formalized during a high-level review meeting with top senior corporation officials, where the minister also ordered the immediate initiation of RTC recognized union elections to restore democratic processes within the corporation. Additionally, the minister instructed officials to expedite the construction of the Nagarkurnool and Peddapalli depots on a war footing to enhance commuter facilities.

Demonstrating strong state support for worker welfare, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also announced a comprehensive relief package for the family of Shankar, an RTC employee who recently tragically passed away by suicide. The minister directed corporation officials to immediately disburse a financial assistance check of ₹1 crore to the grieving family. Alongside the monetary aid, the government will provide a compassionate government job appointment to an eligible family member based on current regulations, as well as allocate a residential unit under the ‘Indiramma Indlu’ housing scheme.

This dual announcement marks a significant step toward boosting employee morale and addressing long-standing labor demands within Telangana’s public transportation network. Through these measures, the minister sent a strong message that the government remains firmly committed to standing by its transit workforce during times of economic transition and personal hardship.
