This historic inauguration brought together an unprecedented political gathering, featuring Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil alongside three prominent southern Chief Ministers: Nara Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh, A. Revanth Reddy of Telangana, and Siddaramaiah (with Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar) of Karnataka. Addressing a massive public gathering at the site, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy hailed the reconstruction project as a monumental milestone in South Indian water resource management. He emphasized that the newly operational gates will effectively secure both irrigation and drinking water safety, successfully resolving a long-standing interstate water crisis that has plagued three generations of local farmers.
The newly designed infrastructure provides a vital safety shield for future generations, engineered to remain highly robust for the next 55 to 60 years. Officials noted that the previous failure of the 19th gate caused massive water wastage and threatened low-lying regions with flash floods. With the new reinforced spillway system functioning seamlessly, the threat of sudden flooding has been heavily minimized. Ministers from all three participating states expressed strong optimism that this upgrade will permanently stabilize water availability and enhance crop security across lakhs of acres of agricultural land in the drought-prone Rayalaseema, Palamuru, and Karnataka regions.
