JD(U) Announces Entry into Punjab Politics Ahead of Assembly Elections

 

The Janata Dal (United), led by former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has announced its expansion into Punjab and confirmed that it will contest the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. Addressing the media in Chandigarh on Saturday, the party’s state in-charge Sanjay Kumar said the JD(U) aims to offer a development-focused and transparent political alternative for the people of Punjab.

The party also unveiled its Punjab organisational structure and constituted a state core committee to strengthen its presence across the state. Malvinder Singh was appointed as the Punjab unit president, while Gurpal Singh Hundal became vice-president. I.S. Ahluwalia was named secretary general, Sanjiv Jha general secretary (organisation), and Kanwar Singh Dhindsa was included in the core leadership team.

JD(U) said its political agenda in Punjab would focus on employment generation, quality education, agricultural reforms, healthcare, transparent governance, women’s empowerment, and social welfare. The party also announced a statewide membership drive to expand its grassroots presence and encourage participation from youth, farmers, professionals, women, and members of civil society.
