The YSR Congress Party has expressed serious concerns over the security arrangements made during former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to East Godavari district. Former minister Gudivada Amarnath strongly criticised the state government and police authorities, alleging that adequate security personnel were not deployed despite a large crowd gathering near the helipad. He questioned the lack of sufficient arrangements for a former chief minister who is entitled to Z-plus security cover.
Gudivada Amarnath claimed that he tried calling the Andhra Pradesh DGP four times but received no response. He alleged that while police deployment and other security arrangements were in place until Wednesday evening, they were reportedly absent the following morning. Amarnath termed the situation suspicious and alleged that an attempt was being made to create circumstances in which responsibility for any untoward incident could later be placed on Jagan. He said party youth volunteers ultimately had to step in to help ensure the former chief minister’s visit proceeded safely.
Former MLA Jakkampudi Raja, who also attended the press conference, criticised the state DGP and called for the police department to function impartially. He made strong remarks questioning the neutrality of the police administration. However, the allegations made by YSRCP leaders have not yet received an official response from the state government or police department. The issue has meanwhile triggered political debate in Andhra Pradesh.
