Municipal contractors working under the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) have called off their strike after receiving assurances regarding the payment of pending dues. The contractors had launched the protest demanding the clearance of approximately ₹350 crore in outstanding payments.
Minister Narayana and the VMC Commissioner assured the contractors that ₹50 crore would be released initially, while the remaining dues would be cleared in phases. The VMC Commissioner also assured that steps would be taken to settle all pending payments by June next year.
Officials further stated that payments would be arranged through the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) and with the support of bank loans. Satisfied with the clear assurances on the payment schedule, the contractors announced the withdrawal of their strike.
