RC-Insurance Name Mismatch Can Create Problems During Claims

A mismatch between the name mentioned on a vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) and its insurance policy may appear to be a minor issue, but it can create serious complications when filing an insurance claim after an accident. Even small spelling errors or differences in personal details can lead to delays or disputes during the claim process.

Such discrepancies commonly occur when a vehicle is purchased second-hand and the ownership details are not updated properly, or when the name is entered incorrectly while purchasing the insurance policy. Vehicle owners should therefore ensure that the name and other details on both documents are accurate and consistent.

If a mismatch is found, vehicle owners should contact the insurance company and request correction of the policy details. In the case of a second-hand vehicle, the ownership transfer should also be properly completed in the RC and the insurance policy updated accordingly. Keeping both records consistent can help avoid unnecessary complications during future claims.
