The Telangana food safety authorities have intensified inspections across Hyderabad following directions from the Commissioner. The TG-Safe Enforcement Department conducted surprise raids in the QRE area with 10 special teams comprising food safety and police personnel. Officials inspected a total of 20 dark stores operated by BigBasket, Blinkit and Zepto, focusing on food storage, hygiene and handling practices.
During the inspections, officials reportedly found several violations, including poor hygiene standards, improper storage of food items and the presence of expired products at some stores. Notices were issued to the managements of stores that violated food safety regulations. Officials also collected samples of food products that were found to be non-compliant and sent them for laboratory testing. Authorities said surprise inspections would continue to ensure strict compliance with food safety standards.
The inspections come amid the Telangana government’s move to establish TG-Safe, an integrated system aimed at monitoring the quality and safety of food products and essential medicines across the state. The initiative brings the food safety and drug control departments under a unified framework to strengthen public health protection. Through increased field-level inspections and strict legal action against violations, the government aims to curb adulteration, unsafe food products and the sale of counterfeit or hazardous medicines.
