Banswada, Kamareddy District: Every journalist must understand and embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology as the media landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, said senior journalist and technology journalism expert Muddam Narasimha Swamy.
A training programme for working journalists from Kamareddy district was organised by the Telangana Media Academy at Banswada to enhance their professional skills and create awareness about emerging trends and modern practices in journalism. The training sessions were held at S.R.N.K. Government Degree College, Banswada, in association with TUWJ.
The programme was presided over by Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy, while Government Advisor and MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy attended as the chief guest.
Special Training on AI Journalism
As part of the training, Muddam Narasimha Swamy conducted sessions on fake news, cybercrime, Artificial Intelligence, social media and digital journalism, creating awareness among journalists about the changing technological landscape.
With the influence of AI on the media sector increasing rapidly, journalists need to understand emerging technologies and use them responsibly, he said. AI tools can assist journalists in news gathering, research, content creation and information analysis, but information generated or obtained through AI must be independently verified, while editorial judgment and human oversight remain essential.
Alertness Needed on Fake News and Deepfakes
Journalists were advised not to treat every piece of information circulating on social media as news. They were urged to verify the source, authenticity and facts before publishing or broadcasting any information.
The training covered methods and approaches related to identifying fake news, deepfakes and AI-generated content, verifying information available on social media, and remaining alert to cyber frauds and cyberattacks.
Swamy emphasised that while delivering news quickly is important in the digital era, maintaining the accuracy, credibility and reliability of news is even more important.
He noted that journalism is no longer limited to conventional news gathering and publication, but is increasingly integrated with digital platforms, social media and AI-powered tools.
Journalists Need to Continuously Upgrade Their Skills
Muddam Narasimha Swamy called upon journalists to continuously upgrade their professional skills in line with technological developments. While embracing new technologies, journalists must also uphold the fundamental principles of journalism, including fact verification, objectivity, responsibility and credibility, he said.
TUWJ Leaders Felicitate Swamy
On the occasion, TUWJ district leaders felicitated Muddam Narasimha Swamy for his contribution to the training programme.
Several working journalists from different parts of Kamareddy district participated in the training sessions.
