Delhi High Court Protects Inheritance Rights of Karisma Kapoor’s Children in ₹30,000 Crore Estate Suit

The Delhi High Court has granted interim relief to Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, the children of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur and Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor, by restraining his widow, Priya Kapur, from disposing of or altering key portions of his estate. Justice Jyoti Singh ruled that the estate must be preserved while the court adjudicates a dispute over a purported will dated March 21, 2025, which the children and their grandmother, Rani Kapur, have challenged as forged. The court noted that a prima facie case was established and that the responsibility lies with Priya Kapur to dispel suspicions surrounding the document’s validity.

Under the court’s order, Priya Kapur is prohibited from transferring or altering the equity and shareholding structure of Sunjay Kapur’s Indian companies. The injunction also prevents her from withdrawing provident fund amounts or disposing of personal effects, including artworks and cryptocurrencies linked to the estate. Furthermore, the court restricted withdrawals from specific Indian bank accounts, except for funds required to fulfill financial liabilities toward the children as per the divorce settlement between Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor.

The legal battle involves an estate estimated to be worth approximately ₹30,000 crore, with the children seeking a one-fifth share each as Class-I legal heirs. Allegations were raised by the children’s counsel that the will was tampered with during a holiday and that an individual involved in modifying the document was suspiciously appointed as a company director the day after Sunjay Kapur’s death. Sunjay Kapur passed away in June 2025 at age 53 following a heart attack in the UK. Separately, the court has also directed Priya Kapur and Sunjay’s sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith, to refrain from making further public statements against one another in a related defamation suit.
