Sehwag Urges Selectors to Recall Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Team India Amid Stellar IPL Form

Former Indian dashing opener Virender Sehwag has strongly recommended the return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the Indian T20 squad, citing his exceptional performance in the 2026 IPL season. Sehwag emphasized that “age is just a number,” arguing that the 36-year-old pacer’s current form should be the primary criteria for selection rather than his age. He specifically suggested that the selectors should consider reuniting the potent bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the national team.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been in phenomenal form while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), reclaiming his reputation as a lethal wicket-taker. Key highlights of his current season include:

  • Wicket Tally: He has already claimed 17 wickets in just 9 matches this season, placing him at the top of the Purple Cap race.

  • Rapid Impact: While he took 17 wickets during the entire 2025 title-winning season for RCB, he has reached the same milestone in only half as many games this year.

  • Consistency: In four out of the last five matches for RCB, he has managed to secure at least three wickets per game.

Furthermore, Bhuvneshwar recently achieved a historic milestone in T20 cricket, becoming the first Indian pacer and only the second Indian bowler overall to take 350 wickets in the format. Across 325 T20 matches, he has amassed 352 wickets at an average of 24.51. Currently, only spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, with 391 wickets, stands ahead of him in the list of highest Indian wicket-takers in T20s.
