The Warangal District Administration has formally debunked viral social media reports claiming the demolition of an 800-year-old Kakatiya-era Shiva temple in Pahadla Ashok Nagar. Officials clarified that the structures found during the clearing of 30 acres of government land for the Young India Integrated Residential School Complex were merely dilapidated remains hidden under dense vegetation. A joint inspection by the Revenue and Archaeology departments confirmed that no intentional destruction took place and that the site was not listed as a protected monument.
The controversy erupted after social media posts alleged that the Revanth Reddy government had used bulldozers to destroy a historical site for a school project, drawing sharp criticism from local historians and activists. Reports even suggested that the National Monuments Authority and the Union Ministry of Culture had taken serious note of the incident following complaints. However, the District Collector and the local MLA, after visiting the spot, reassured the public that the remains are on government land and do not belong to the Endowment Department.
To preserve the region’s heritage, the administration has pledged to restore the structure at the same location with guidance from historians and the Archaeology Department. Efforts are underway to grant official archaeological recognition to the site to ensure its long-term protection. Authorities have urged the public and the media to verify facts with official sources before sharing sensitive information and to ignore misleading claims circulating on digital platforms.
