Why Congress Backed Vijay’s Party: MP Manickam Tagore Clarifies Stand

Congress MP Manickam Tagore has strongly defended his party’s decision to support Vijay’s TVK in Tamil Nadu, hitting back at critics. He stated that TVK has been consistently anti-BJP since its inception, which aligns with the Congress party’s core ideology. Tagore emphasized that the primary goal of this alliance is to provide a stable government and respect the public mandate while ensuring that the NDA is kept far away from power in the southern state.

Reflecting on the recent political developments, the MP noted that Rahul Gandhi had communicated with leaders like Stalin and Mamata Banerjee following the election results. He pointed out that while Congress acknowledges regional concerns, the necessity to stand against the NDA in Tamil Nadu led them to back TVK. He also reminded critics that Rahul Gandhi supported Mamata Banerjee’s allegations regarding “vote theft” by the BJP in West Bengal, reinforcing the party’s commitment to fighting the NDA across India.

Manickam Tagore expressed disappointment over the criticism coming from DMK-aligned media, labeling it as an attempt to tarnish the Congress party’s image. He went as far as to describe the DMK and AIADMK as “another version of the NDA,” suggesting they are acting with the blessings of the BJP. He concluded by asserting that Congress has no reason to apologize for its strategic partnership with TVK, as the alliance was a necessary step to prevent the NDA from gaining a foothold in the state.
