A significant controversy has erupted in Telangana politics as a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case has been registered against Bandi Bhagirath, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay. A 17-year-old girl filed a complaint alleging that Bhagirath coerced her into consuming alcohol and subsequently sexually assaulted her. The incident reportedly took place at a farmhouse in Moinabad and two other locations, leading to intense drama at the Peat Basheerbad police station before the case was officially filed.
In a counter-move, Bandi Bhagirath has filed a formal complaint at the Karimnagar Two Town Police Station, alleging that he is the victim of a “honeytrap.” Bhagirath claims that a young woman named Chatla Anvi befriended him under false pretenses and later, along with her parents, began pressuring him into marriage. He alleges that when he rejected the proposal, they resorted to criminal intimidation, threatening to file false sexual harassment charges if he did not comply with their demands.
The legal battle has escalated further with allegations of financial extortion. According to the FIR based on Bhagirath’s complaint, he initially paid ₹50,000 to Anvi’s father to avoid public scandal, but the family allegedly increased their demand to ₹5 crore. They reportedly threatened that Anvi’s mother would commit suicide and blame him if the money was not paid. As the police conduct preliminary investigations into both the assault allegations and the extortion claims, the case continues to draw heavy political and public attention in Hyderabad.
