The political deadlock in Tamil Nadu appears to be nearing a resolution as reports emerge that the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has decided to extend unconditional support to Thalapathy Vijay’s party, TVK. Despite emerging as the single largest party with 108 seats, TVK was previously struggling to reach the majority mark of 118. With the anticipated support of VCK’s two MLAs, Vijay is expected to finally hit the “magic number,” paving the way for the formation of a new government and ending the prolonged suspense in the state’s leadership.
Following this breakthrough, TVK Chief Vijay has reportedly moved from his Neelangarai residence to a location closer to Raj Bhavan, prepared to meet Governor R.V. Arlekar. Previously, the Governor had declined Vijay’s request to form the government three times, insisting on a formal letter of support from at least 118 MLAs. The VCK executive committee has reportedly authorized their chief, Thol. Thirumavalavan, to make the final call on the alliance, and a formal announcement is expected during a press conference scheduled for Saturday evening.
The potential alliance comes at a critical time, as other parties like IUML and AMMK had previously distanced themselves from TVK, leaving Vijay in a difficult numerical position. The DMK had also been critical of Vijay’s repeated visits to the Governor without secured numbers, advising him to consolidate his support first. If the VCK’s support is officially confirmed today, it will likely trigger an immediate invitation from the Governor for Vijay to take the oath as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
