Bandi Bhagirath, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay, has moved the Telangana High Court seeking to quash a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case registered against him. The petition is scheduled for a hearing before the High Court’s vacation bench on Wednesday, May 14.
The Allegations and Police Charges
The legal trouble began on May 8, when the Pet Basheerabad police in Hyderabad booked a case against Bhagirath following a complaint from a mother who alleged that he had been harassing her 17-year-old minor daughter. The case was registered under the stringent POCSO Act, sparking a significant political stir in Telangana.
Claims of Conspiracy and Counter-Case
Bhagirath has vehemently denied the allegations, maintaining that there is no truth to the charges and that the case is a “planned conspiracy.” In a retaliatory move, Bhagirath filed a separate complaint alleging that the minor girl and her mother were blackmailing and threatening him for money. Consequently, the Karimnagar police registered a counter-case against the mother and daughter on the same day. Investigations into both conflicting complaints are currently underway.
