Cockroach Janata Party: CJP’s X Account Withheld in India Following Government Legal Demand; Founder Abhijeet Anticipates Arrest

The official X (formerly Twitter) account of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP)—a satirical digital movement that recently took the Indian internet by storm—has been officially withheld in India. According to a statement issued by X, the restrictive action was taken in direct compliance with a formal legal demand initiated by the Government of India. Responding to the sudden suspension, the movement’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke, remarked that the block was entirely expected but asserted that suppressing organic digital protests remains an impossible task. Strikingly, within a mere two hours of the ban, a fallback account titled ‘Cockroach is Back’ emerged online, quickly recovering thousands of followers.

The satirical political wave traces its roots back to a controversial statement allegedly made during a Supreme Court hearing on May 15 by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Media reports initially claimed the CJI referred to unemployed youth utilizing Right to Information (RTI) channels and social media to voice protests with fraudulent degrees as “cockroaches and parasites.” Although the CJI later issued a formal clarification stating his critical remarks were strictly directed at individuals holding fake academic credentials rather than the wider unemployed youth, the “cockroach” label had already gone viral. Enraged by the choice of words, Gen-Z netizens embraced the term as a symbol of resilience, asserting that even if viewed as cockroaches, they would not hesitate to question authority.

Leveraging this massive digital resentment, former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) social media strategist Abhijeet Dipke launched the Cockroach Janata Party on May 16 as an absolute parody platform. Tagged as the official party for the unemployed, the relaxed, and those raising constructive arguments, its bio humorously declared its headquarters to be located “wherever an active Wi-Fi connection is available.” The satirical platform witnessed unprecedented viral exponential growth, amassing a staggering 1.45 million followers in just four days, out-pacing the official Instagram follower metrics of established mainstream political bodies like the BJP. Currently completing his education at Boston University in the United States, Dipke voiced severe anxieties about returning home, stating in a recent interview that he realistically expects the Delhi Police to detain him at the airport and transfer him directly to the Tihar Jail.
