Central Government Approves ₹1,235 Crore Mega Housing Project in Amaravati

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially approved a massive residential project in Andhra Pradesh’s capital, Amaravati. With a total budget allocation of ₹1,234.91 crore—fully funded by the Central Government through budgetary support—this marks the first General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) project in the state. Spearheaded by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the pre-bid activities and tender document preparations are already underway.

Spanning across a 17-acre campus, the mega-complex will feature 11 residential towers comprising 1,504 flats, ranging from Type-II to Type-VI categories to accommodate various cadres of central government employees. The project boasts a total built-up area of 31.30 lakh square feet and includes a massive basement parking facility for 1,972 cars. By providing housing near their workplaces, the initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on central employees, boost their morale, and significantly enhance the efficiency of government operations in the capital region.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the entire complex will adhere to green building standards, targeting at least a 4-star GRIHA rating by focusing on energy efficiency, water conservation, and the use of local materials. The campus will function as a self-contained mini-township equipped with modern civic amenities, including a bank, ATM, post office, community hall, food court, shopping complex, and a guest house, alongside barrier-free access for differently-abled individuals. Furthermore, the project is set to boost the local economy by generating substantial employment, estimating around 7 lakh mandays annually during construction and 50,000 mandays per year during the maintenance phase.
