An unexpected incident occurred during a Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 match on Monday. During the game between New Delhi Tigers and East Delhi Riders at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, umpire Dharmesh Bharadwaj was seriously injured after being struck by a ball.
The incident happened when New Delhi Tigers batter Lakshya Thareja played a powerful shot that travelled straight towards the umpire. The ball hit Dharmesh Bharadwaj directly on the face, causing him to collapse on the field. He was immediately attended to by the medical team and shifted to the ICU for treatment.
A video of the unfortunate incident has now gone viral on social media. The incident has once again highlighted the risks umpires face while standing close to the action, particularly during powerful shots played by batters.
