Reuters has now reported that Xi is likely to visit India with a large delegation.
If confirmed, this would mark Xi Jinping’s first visit to India in nearly seven years since the Doklam standoff. His participation is expected to give the BRICS summit greater international significance, with the Chinese President’s visit likely to attract as much attention as the summit itself.
The expected visit also comes amid efforts to improve India-China relations. The two countries have recently held several rounds of discussions, while India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is also in China for important talks. Xi’s proposed visit could provide an opportunity for both sides to discuss key bilateral and regional issues.
