Trump Administration Proposes Scrapping 60-Day Grace Period for H-1B Workers

H-1B visa holders working in the United States could face another major setback as the Donald Trump administration has proposed ending the existing 60-day grace period for foreign workers who lose their jobs. The proposal has been put forward by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Under the current rules, eligible H-1B workers who lose employment can generally use the 60-day period to find a new job or take other steps to maintain their status. The DHS proposal seeks to remove this discretionary grace period.

The proposed rule, titled “Elimination of the Discretionary 60-Day Grace Period,” is expected to be published in the Federal Register. If implemented, the move could put additional pressure on foreign workers who lose their jobs in the US.
