TDP Hits Back at Jagan’s Guntur Visit: “A Political Drama to Shield Abusive Leaders”

The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) launched a fierce counter-attack on YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy following his visit to former minister Ambati Rambabu’s residence in Guntur on February 4, 2026. Top TDP leaders, including Minister Atchannaidu, Varla Ramaiah, and Deepak Reddy, dismissed Jagan’s 9-hour “Paramarsha” (consolation) trip as a staged drama. They argued that Jagan is attempting to gain political sympathy by defending leaders known for using foul language and instigating violence, rather than addressing actual public grievances.

Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu mocked the slow pace of Jagan’s journey, noting that while the 34 km distance from Tadepalli to Guntur usually takes 30 minutes, Jagan dragged it out for nine hours to create a “TV serial-like” spectacle. He challenged Jagan to stop doing “road dramas” and instead attend the Legislative Assembly to debate state issues. Atchannaidu reminded the public that it was Jagan’s “Jungle Raj” over the last five years—marked by the arrest of opposition leaders and attacks on the TDP central office—that led to the YSRCP being reduced to just 11 seats in the recent elections.

Adding to the criticism, TDP leaders Varla Ramaiah and Deepak Reddy questioned Jagan’s moral right to speak on democracy. They listed several instances from the previous YSRCP regime, such as the third-degree torture of MP Raghu Rama Krishna Raju and the harassment of leaders like Dhulipalla Narendra and Kollu Ravindra. Furthermore, former MLC Ashok Babu reaffirmed that the adulteration of Tirumala Laddu ghee with animal fat is a “proven fact” based on the July 2024 NDDB report. He challenged the YSRCP to a public debate on the technical evidence instead of misleading the devotees with false denials.
