The Telangana government has implemented significant reforms in the application process for fee reimbursement and student scholarships. According to the new mandatory guidelines, students applying for tuition fee support must ensure that their name and surname on their SSC (10th standard) memo perfectly match the details on their Aadhaar card. If there is even the slightest discrepancy between the two documents, the application process will not move forward. The state government has brought this new system into effect to align with the national scholarship framework.
During the initial application phase, students must enter details like their SSC hall ticket number, date of birth, and year of passing. The application will only be generated if the name on the Aadhaar matches the SSC memo. Once this first step is complete and a unique ID is generated, students must visit a Mee-Seva center to finish their Aadhaar biometric authentication and submit the remaining details online. This rule applies to both fresh applicants and renewal students. In another major decision, the government announced that tuition fees and scholarships for ST, BC, Minority, and differently-abled students will now be directly deposited into their personal bank accounts, extending a benefit that was previously implemented only for SC students.
Every year, around 12 lakh students apply for this scheme across the state, costing the government approximately Rs 2,400 crore. However, official estimates suggest that nearly 20 percent of these students might need to update their Aadhaar details to match their academic records. In light of this, authorities are strongly advising students to utilize the current summer holidays to correct any errors in their Aadhaar cards before the commencement of the 2026-27 academic year. Additionally, it has been made strictly mandatory to link a mobile number to the Aadhaar card and the Aadhaar to the bank account for the final verification and sanctioning of the fees.
