Financial Aid for Fishermen: CM Chandrababu Naidu to Visit Kavali to Release ₹262 Crore

Enhanced Financial Aid for Fishing Ban Period: The Andhra Pradesh alliance government is set to provide financial security to the state’s fishing community for the second consecutive year through the ‘Matsyakarula Sevalo’ scheme. Under this initiative, a total of ₹262 crore will be distributed directly to 1,30,796 fishermen families across the state, with each family receiving ₹20,000. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will formally launch the fund release on Tuesday during a state event at Tummalapenta village in the Kavali constituency of Nellore district, reaffirming the government’s commitment to coastal welfare.

Fulfilling Election Manifesto Promises: The annual 61-day fishing ban—enforced from April 15 to June 14 to allow for marine breeding—leaves thousands of fishermen families without a regular source of livelihood. To mitigate their financial hardships, the NDA alliance government has doubled the seasonal relief stipend from the previous ₹10,000 to ₹20,000, successfully fulfilling one of its primary election manifesto promises. Despite facing severe fiscal challenges and a constrained state budget, the administration prioritized this cash injection to support vulnerable backward communities during their off-season.

Cumulative Welfare Milestones and Alternative Livelihoods: Compared to last year’s disbursement of ₹243 crore to 1,21,433 families, both the beneficiary count and budget allocation have seen a significant increase this year, bringing the total financial aid provided over the past two years to ₹505 crore. Beyond the seasonal ban relief, the government has accelerated insurance payouts, clearing ₹3.15 crore for 63 claims in 2024-25 and ₹5.65 crore for 113 pending claims in 2025-26 for families of fishermen who lost their lives at sea. Furthermore, the state is actively promoting alternative revenue streams, such as commercial seaweed cultivation, to ensure long-term economic stability for coastal communities.
