Breaking Protocol: Elderly Woman Steals the Spotlight at Kerala CM VD Satheesan’s Swearing-In Ceremony

A Rare Moment at the Oath Ceremony: The swearing-in ceremony of Kerala’s new Chief Minister, Congress leader V.D. Satheesan, witnessed a deeply emotional and rare moment that broke all rigid security protocols. As Satheesan and 20 other cabinet ministers took their oaths at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram administered by Governor RV Arlekar, an elderly ordinary woman was escorted straight onto the VVIP stage. To the surprise of everyone gathered, the newly appointed Chief Minister stepped aside from his official duties to embrace the woman and seek her blessings, subsequently introducing her to top Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, who warmly hugged her back.

The Story of a Beautiful Bond: The elderly woman was identified as Seethalakshmi Ammal from Paravur, and her connection with the Chief Minister dates back to the devastating 2018 Kerala floods. Having lost her home in the natural disaster, she met Satheesan for the first time at a local flood relief camp where he was actively managing rescue and rehabilitation operations. Touched by his empathy and constant support during her darkest hours, she came to regard him not just as a leader, but as her own son. Satheesan, too, maintained this bond over the years by regularly checking on her well-being and officially invited her to share his moment of political triumph.

A Mother’s Fulfilled Wish: Prior to taking the stage, an emotional Seethalakshmi recounted how Satheesan had comforted her during the floods, promising that she would never have to worry about food, clothing, or shelter as long as he was alive. She added that during the rigorous election campaign, she had explicitly blessed him with the confidence that he would emerge victorious and become the Chief Minister. Traveling all the way from Paravur to the state capital, her sole desire was to witness her foster son’s success and bless him in person—a wish that culminated in a powerful visual of humanity prevailing over political protocol.
