Rana Daggubati on Filmmaking: “Cinema is Not a 9-to-5 Job, It is a Lifestyle Powered by Creativity!”

Tollywood actor and producer Rana Daggubati has made some insightful remarks about the functioning of the film industry and the dedication it demands from its makers. Rana, who recently garnered critical acclaim for his performance in the unique content-driven film Kanta—even though it didn’t achieve the expected commercial success at the box office—shared his perspective on what goes on behind the scenes. His thought-provoking views on the realities of film shoots have since taken social media by storm.

Reflecting on the nature of the entertainment industry, Rana asserted that cinema cannot be treated like a mundane corporate routine. “Cinema is not a 9-to-5 job where you walk in every morning and log out by evening; it is a complete lifestyle. Choosing to sustain yourself in this lifestyle depends entirely on your passion. This industry is not a factory that churns out manufactured goods, where working a fixed eight-hour shift guarantees you an extraordinary cinematic scene,” Rana stated.

Highlighting the grueling efforts and unpredictable nature of movie production, Rana explained that creativity cannot be bound by the clock. “There are times on set when we work tirelessly for 15 hours straight, yet at the end of the day, we might not get even a single perfect shot. Filmmaking entirely transforms based on the project you handle and the situations you face on the ground,” he added. Rana concluded that enduring intense physical and creative labor for the sake of art, rather than counting working hours, is what truly sets the world of cinema apart.
