Karnataka Political Shift: Caretaker CM Siddaramaiah Convenes Crucial CLP Meeting to Elect Successor on May 30

In a major political development in Karnataka, caretaker Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has officially convened a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Saturday, May 30. The high-level meeting is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM in the Conference Hall of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. Presided over by Siddaramaiah himself in his capacity as the CLP Leader, the primary agenda of this convention is to formally elect a new leader following his resignation, who will then step up as the party’s definitive choice for the next Chief Minister of the state.

The announcement was formally made by Allamaprabhu Patil, MLA and Secretary of the Congress Legislature Party, with a strict directive issued to all party MLAs, MLCs, and both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament to attend. Key organizational figures, including Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D.K. Shivakumar, AICC General Secretary and state in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, and Legislative Council floor leader N.S. Bose Raju, will be present. Meanwhile, after holding strategic discussions in Delhi with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddaramaiah departed from the national capital on Friday evening.

Adding immense clarity to the imminent transition, Karnataka Minister H.K. Patil confirmed that D.K. Shivakumar is effectively the Chief Minister-designate and is slated to take the oath of office within the next two days. Minister Patil revealed that the transition map became entirely transparent the moment Siddaramaiah disclosed the high command’s advisory regarding his resignation and the subsequent elevation of Shivakumar. Before leaving Delhi, the top leadership showcased a united front as Siddaramaiah, D.K. Shivakumar, Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, and former minister K.H. Muniyappa shared a luncheon meeting, signaling a smooth transfer of power ahead of Saturday’s formal election.
