The Supreme Court has declined to urgently hear a petition challenging the police action against protesters during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led ‘Chalo Sansad’ march. The Bench made it clear that the matter did not warrant an urgent hearing and refused to take it up on an immediate basis.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice Surya Kant made significant observations, stating that neither the court’s time nor the petitioner’s time should be wasted. The court indicated that the matter would not be treated as one requiring extraordinary urgency.
When the petitioner’s counsel requested the court to examine videos allegedly showing the police lathi-charge on protesters, the Chief Justice responded that the Bench did not have the time to review the video footage during the hearing. The court, therefore, declined to entertain the plea on an urgent basis.
