The India-US jointly developed NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) Earth observation satellite is providing scientists with an advanced view of changes occurring on the planet. In one of its latest radar images, an ice formation in Antarctica has drawn attention for its striking resemblance to a hummingbird, making it a fascinating highlight of the mission.
Developed jointly by NASA and ISRO, the NISAR satellite is designed to monitor Earth’s surface with high precision using advanced radar technology. The mission is expected to play a key role in studying glaciers, forests, earthquakes, land movement, and other environmental changes, helping scientists better understand the impacts of climate change and natural hazards.
NASA has begun making NISAR’s data publicly available from July 20, allowing researchers worldwide to access valuable Earth observation information. The agency said data collected through the satellite’s L-band and S-band radar systems will be released in phases, enabling the global scientific community to conduct detailed environmental and geological studies.
