Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Forest & Environment Minister Pawan Kalyan has directed officials to accelerate the identification and conservation of wetlands across the state. In line with Supreme Court directives, he called for a comprehensive action plan to protect these ecologically sensitive areas. As part of this initiative, the process of declaring the renowned freshwater lake Kondakarla Ava in Anakapalli district as a Conservation Reserve under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, has moved a step forward after receiving approval from the Water Resources Department.
The government clarified that the proposal has been designed to ensure that the irrigation needs of local farmers, the livelihoods of fishing communities, and reservoir management remain unaffected. Necessary safeguards have been incorporated while granting approvals to balance conservation efforts with public interests.
Recognizing Kondakarla Ava as a rich biodiversity hotspot and an important habitat for migratory and native birds, Pawan Kalyan instructed officials to conduct a detailed survey and coordinate with the Water Resources Department to explore eco-friendly tourism opportunities. He emphasized preparing a clear roadmap that protects the environment while creating employment opportunities for local communities and youth through sustainable eco-tourism projects.
