A deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal crossed the coast near Digha in West Bengal early Tuesday morning and is currently moving across parts of West Bengal and Odisha, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather system is expected to move west-northwest over the next 24 hours and gradually weaken while passing through northern Odisha, southern Jharkhand, and northern Chhattisgarh. Authorities have also warned of strong winds along coastal regions.
The impact of the system is expected to be felt across several districts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Polavaram, Kakinada, East Godavari, West Godavari, and Eluru districts. Meanwhile, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Bapatla, Sri Sathya Sai, and Tirupati districts are likely to receive scattered light showers.
The weather department has also predicted rainfall in parts of Telangana. Residents have been advised to remain alert and avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and lightning. Officials urged people to follow weather advisories and take necessary precautions until the system weakens.
