The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a significant step regarding the utilization and sharing of Krishna River waters. The state’s Special Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department has written to the Chairman of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), requesting an urgent meeting to review the current water availability in the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs.
The government highlighted concerns over possible uncertainty in water availability this year due to the impact of El Niño. It stressed the need for careful management of the available water resources and urged the KRMB to clearly determine the water allocations for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Andhra Pradesh has proposed that the distribution of Krishna River waters be the sole agenda of an emergency KRMB meeting or a three-member committee meeting. The state emphasized the importance of taking timely decisions to ensure clarity on water sharing between the two states while addressing future irrigation and drinking water requirements.
