Telangana Government Provides ₹1 Crore Free Insurance Cover to Employees and Pensioners

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced in the Telangana Legislative Assembly that the state government’s ₹1 crore free insurance scheme for government employees, contract and outsourcing staff, and pensioners is the first of its kind in the country. He said the scheme was introduced with the humanitarian objective of providing financial security to the families of employees who die accidentally or unexpectedly. The scheme is being implemented in partnership with banks without placing any financial burden on either the government or the employees.

According to the Deputy CM, a total of 12,91,056 people across the state are covered under the scheme. This includes 5,18,293 regular employees and 5,00,158 temporary, outsourcing, contract, multipurpose workers, daily-wage workers, NREGS, MTS and SERP staff. In addition, 2,72,600 pensioners and family pensioners are also covered under the insurance scheme.

Bhatti Vikramarka said 98 claims have already been settled under the scheme, with payments amounting to several crores made to the families of the affected beneficiaries. He also stated that special health cards have been introduced to provide additional healthcare support to employees and their family members.
