Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar Appointed as Additional Solicitor General in Supreme Court

The Central Government has appointed former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Rajya Sabha MP and Senior Advocate Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar as an Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India for the Supreme Court. According to the official notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on December 22, 2024, the appointment is for a tenure of three years. Alongside him, Senior Advocate Davinder Pal Singh and Anil Kaushik were also appointed to the same prestigious role to represent the Union Government in the apex court.

Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar brings a wealth of legal and political experience to the position, having served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 2018 to 2024. A seasoned legal professional, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2012 and has over four decades of practice in constitutional, civil, and criminal law. Notably, he previously represented the Government of Andhra Pradesh in high-stakes interstate river water disputes before the Supreme Court between 2002 and 2004.

The appointment has been met with significant celebration within the TDP ranks, as it marks another key role for a senior party leader at the national level. This follows the recent appointment of fellow TDP veteran Ashok Gajapathi Raju as the Governor of Goa. As ASG, Ravindra Kumar will now play a pivotal role in arguing critical government cases, providing legal counsel on policy matters, and defending the Union’s stance on constitutional issues in the Supreme Court.
