Ambati Rambabu’s Quash Petition: AP High Court Adjourns Hearing; Orders Police to File Counter

Former Minister and YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu, who was recently arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approached the AP High Court to quash the criminal cases registered against him. During the hearing on Thursday, the court sought clarity on the charges leveled against the leader. Ambati’s legal counsel argued that the cases were politically motivated and filed as part of a vendetta.

Ambati’s lawyer presented strong arguments, stating that the arrest and subsequent judicial remand were “entirely illegal” and violated procedural norms. The counsel informed the court that the police acted against established regulations, infringing upon the petitioner’s fundamental rights. After hearing these submissions, the High Court directed the police department to file a detailed counter-affidavit with all relevant facts. The next hearing has been scheduled for February 11, 2026.

Meanwhile, parallel proceedings are taking place in a Guntur court regarding Ambati’s bail application, police custody request, and petitions for better facilities in jail. The Guntur court has adjourned the hearing on these matters until Friday. Ambati Rambabu was arrested following a heated confrontation in Guntur involving TDP activists and police over the removal of a political banner. He is currently being held at the Rajamahendravaram Central Jail under a 14-day judicial remand.
