The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has brought much-needed news for the people of Telangana, who have been struggling with record-breaking summer temperatures and intense humidity. According to the latest update, the sweltering heat is expected to subside as widespread rains are predicted across the state for the next four days. This change in weather is expected to provide a significant break from the recent heatwave conditions that have gripped the region.
An ‘Orange Alert’ has been specifically issued for several districts, including Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, and Nagarkurnool, where heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hailstorms are anticipated between May 5 and May 7. Additionally, districts such as Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Rangareddy are likely to experience lightning and strong gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. Authorities have advised the public to remain cautious, particularly warning against taking shelter under trees during lightning strikes.
The capital city, Hyderabad, is also set to see a welcome drop in temperatures. After experiencing highs of over 42°C, the maximum temperature is expected to fall by 2 to 5 degrees, settling below 39°C by May 8. While the rain offers a respite from the heat, officials have urged farmers to take necessary precautions to protect their harvested crops from getting soaked in the unseasonal downpour.
