Actress Sameera Reddy recently opened up about the prejudices she faced early in her career regarding South Indian cinema. In a candid interview, she revealed that when she was busy with Hindi projects, her team warned her against taking up roles in the South. She recalled that a common misconception prevailed at the time: that only actors who failed to secure work in Bollywood would migrate to the South Indian film industry.
Despite the warnings, Sameera chose to embrace her roots and worked alongside legendary stars like Chiranjeevi, Junior NTR, Surya, and Ajith. She expressed immense pride in her decision, noting that working with such icons was a matter of great prestige for her family, especially for her father. She highlighted that the technical brilliance and daring action sequences of Southern cinema have always been ahead of their time because directors there are more willing to take creative risks compared to the “safe zone” approach often seen in Bollywood.
Pointing out the dramatic shift in the industry today, Sameera observed that top Bollywood actresses are now actively competing for roles in South Indian films. After a decade-long hiatus, she is set to return to the screen opposite Sanjay Dutt in the film Akhri Savaal. Clarifying her absence, she stated that she doesn’t view this as a “comeback” but rather a continuation of her journey after a self-imposed break.
