A deep sense of anxiety has gripped a Hyderabad-based family after an 18-year-old student went missing in Finland and has remained untraceable for the last 45 days. Gujja Manideep Reddy, a resident of Hayathnagar, moved to Finland in March 2025 to pursue a B.Tech degree at LUT University in Lahti city. Distressed by his sudden disappearance, his parents approached the Telangana High Court, filing a petition to expedite efforts to locate their son. In response, the High Court has issued urgent notices to the Central Government and diplomatic authorities, demanding a detailed report on the steps being taken to trace the youngster.
According to the family, Manideep Reddy last spoke to his mother over the phone on May 5. During that brief conversation, he mentioned that he was at a bakery, would return to his room shortly, and also requested some money. However, his mobile phone was switched off soon after, and all subsequent attempts by his roommates, friends, and university officials to establish contact yielded no results. Accusing the Indian Embassy in Helsinki and local Finnish authorities of demonstrating severe delay in responding to their plight, his parents, Gujja Maranatha and Muthyam Reddy, moved the court for judicial intervention.
The petition came up for hearing on June 18 before Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy. The court formally issued notices to the Union Government, the Indian Embassy in Finland, and the Telangana Police, directing them to provide an official explanation regarding the progress of the missing person investigation. Meanwhile, the counsel representing the Central Government informed the court that a formal missing case has already been registered in Finland and local law enforcement is investigating the matter. The High Court has subsequently adjourned the next hearing to June 24, as the anxious parents look to the government for the safe return of their son.
