Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan reviewed the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission and Amarajeevi Jaladhara Mega Water Grid projects with Rural Water Supply (RWS) officials, focusing on providing a permanent solution to drinking water shortages in Palnadu and Prakasam districts. He directed officials to speed up the execution of the projects while ensuring that quality standards are strictly maintained throughout the implementation process.
During the review meeting, Pawan Kalyan warned that the expected El Niño conditions could lead to below-normal rainfall and increase the risk of drinking water scarcity across several parts of the state. He instructed officials to identify vulnerable areas in advance and prepare contingency plans to ensure that people do not face hardship during the summer. Special attention, he said, should be given to regions that frequently experience water shortages.
Pawan Kalyan said the two mega projects are expected to provide a long-term solution to the drinking water problems that have affected Palnadu and Prakasam districts for years. Being implemented under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the projects have an estimated cost of ₹2,500 crore. Once completed, they are expected to provide safe drinking water to more than 1.6 million people across 10 Assembly constituencies, and he directed officials to complete the works within the stipulated timeline.
