The Jammikunta Municipality in Karimnagar district held a meeting with owners of hotels, tiffin centres, tea stalls, snack vendors, and street food carts at the old municipal office. The meeting was chaired by Municipal Chairman Molugu Prashanth Kumar (Dileep) and attended by Municipal Commissioner G. Mallikarjuna Swamy as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner directed all business owners to completely stop the use of single-use plastic. He instructed that food should not be served in plastic plates, plastic cups, or plastic covers, and instead advised the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as leaf plates and biodegradable containers. Tea stalls were also directed to serve tea only in glass or steel cups to reduce plastic waste.
The Commissioner warned that anyone found using banned plastic items would face fines ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000, along with strict action under municipal regulations. He also instructed roadside vendors to operate only within their designated areas without crossing the white line on the main road. Additionally, vendors were advised not to pay rent to shop owners for operating in front of commercial establishments, as only municipal guidelines would be applicable.
