India Post has announced revised guidelines and new pricing for its 24 Speed Post and 48 Speed Post services, which will come into effect from August 1. Along with the updated rates, the postal department has also clarified which items will be classified as Letters and which will be treated as Parcels, helping customers better understand the mailing process.
According to the new guidelines, all types of letters, printed documents, and gift items with no resale value will be treated as Letters. Banking and financial documents such as welcome kits, passbooks, cheque books, bank statements, debit cards, and credit cards also fall under this category. Government-issued identity documents, including PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, Voter ID cards, passports, and driving licences, will continue to be accepted as letters.
In addition, Rakhi envelopes and greeting cards weighing up to 500 grams, provided they are not meant for commercial sale, will also be treated as letters under the revised rules. The updated classification is expected to streamline Speed Post services and provide greater clarity for customers using India Post.
