‘Om Namo Venkatesaya’: A Different Devotional Chapter in Nagarjuna and K. Raghavendra Rao’s Combo

Whenever devotional films featuring director K. Raghavendra Rao and Akkineni Nagarjuna are discussed, Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu immediately come to mind. However, their third devotional collaboration, Om Namo Venkatesaya, took a completely different approach from the earlier films.

The movie revolves around Hathiram Bhavji, a devoted follower of Lord Venkateswara of Tirumala. Since detailed historical information about his life was not readily available, the filmmakers developed the story with creative interpretations. This gave the film a distinct narrative style while portraying the deep spiritual bond between the devotee and the deity.

Unlike Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu, Om Namo Venkatesaya explored the theme of renunciation and spiritual devotion in greater depth. The film presented a different dimension of devotion through Hathiram Bhavji’s journey, making it a unique addition to the devotional films created by K. Raghavendra Rao and Nagarjuna.
