Power consumption in Vizianagaram district has increased by 26% compared with last year due to high temperatures attributed to the El Niño effect, State Minister for MSMEs, Rural Poverty Alleviation and NRI Empowerment Relations Kondapalli Srinivas said in a statement on Thursday. The rise in temperatures has led to a significant increase in electricity demand across the district.
The minister said the sharp rise in power demand has resulted in interruptions during evening hours, causing some inconvenience to residents. He explained that the increased demand has placed additional pressure on the power supply system, particularly during peak consumption periods.
Kondapalli Srinivas said Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar directed APGENCO officials at a meeting held on Wednesday to increase power generation in line with the growing demand. The government is taking steps to address the increased requirement and improve power availability in the district.
