Police CI Suspended for Leaking Investigation Secrets to MLC Anantha Babu in Driver Murder Case

A Circle Inspector (CI) has been suspended in Andhra Pradesh following serious allegations of leaking confidential investigation details to YSRCP MLC Anantha Babu, the prime accused (A1) in the murder of his former driver, Subrahmanyam. Sarpavaram CI Ravi Kumar was found to be sharing internal police movements and highly sensitive case data with the MLC, thereby compromising the integrity of the ongoing probe. The illicit cooperation reportedly helped the accused stay informed about the legal steps being taken against him.

The Eluru Range IG took swift action after higher officials identified the breach of protocol. CI Ravi Kumar has been stripped of his duties and transferred to the Vacancy Reserve (VR) with immediate effect. The department viewed this as a grave act of misconduct that undermined the transparency of the murder investigation, which has already drawn significant public and political attention across the state.

In addition to the immediate suspension, the Eluru Range IG has ordered a comprehensive departmental inquiry into the CI’s actions. Investigators will look into the extent of the information shared and whether any other officers were involved in assisting the MLC. This move by the police leadership aims to restore public confidence in the investigation and ensure that the legal process remains impartial and free from internal sabotage.
