The political climate in Telangana has intensified following the tragic death of RTC driver Shankar Goud from Narsampet in the Warangal district. As the ongoing RTC strike continues to heat up, opposition leaders preparing to attend his funeral are being intercepted and stopped by the police across various locations to prevent further escalation.
In a bid to maintain law and order, police have taken preventive measures by placing several key BRS leaders under house arrest in Hanamkonda. A heavy police force was deployed at the residence of former Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, preventing him from leaving to pay his final respects to the deceased driver. Similarly, former MLA Aaruri Ramesh was also restricted to his home by the authorities.
The police defended their actions, citing intelligence reports which indicated that the presence of prominent political figures at the funeral could fuel larger protests and create unrest. However, BRS leaders have strongly condemned the government’s approach, expressing their outrage and alleging that even the basic democratic right to pay respects to the deceased is being forcefully suppressed.
