Telangana IPS officer V.C. Sajjanar recently issued a creative and stern warning to motorists about the fatal consequences of distracted driving, specifically targeting fans engrossed in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sajjanar urged drivers not to check cricket scores on their mobile phones while on the road. He cleverly used a cricket analogy, stating that while the sport allows players to use the Decision Review System (DRS) to challenge an umpire’s call, the “God of Death” (Yamadharma Raja) does not offer a “Death Review System.“
Highlighting the finality of road accidents, Sajjanar warned that losing your “wicket” on the street is permanent. Unlike a cricket match where a dismissed batsman simply walks back to the pavilion, a fatal error caused by reckless driving means leaving this world forever. He urged the public not to get “clean bowled” and reduce their lives to “zero” just to catch a glimpse of a scoreboard, stressing that real life does not come with the option of a video review or a second chance.
In his appeal, the IPS officer reminded citizens to prioritize their loved ones over fleeting entertainment. He acknowledged that while having a passion for cricket is completely normal, it should never escalate into a dangerous obsession that puts lives at risk. Sajjanar poignantly concluded that while a particular match might seem incredibly important to a fan, to the family waiting anxiously at home, the safe return of their loved one is the only thing that truly matters.
