Padma Awards 2027: Nominations Open Until July 31, Announces Home Ministry

The Union Home Ministry has announced that the deadline for submitting nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2027 is July 31, 2026. These prestigious civilian honors—Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri—will be conferred on the occasion of Republic Day 2027. The nomination process, which commenced on March 15, is being conducted exclusively online through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in).

Submissions must include a comprehensive citation in a narrative format, not exceeding 800 words, detailing the exceptional achievements or distinguished service of the nominee in their respective field. The awards recognize excellence across various disciplines, including Art, Social Work, Science, Medicine, and Sports. While all citizens are eligible regardless of race or sex, government servants (excluding doctors and scientists) are ineligible for these awards.

The government aims to transform these honors into a “People’s Padma” by encouraging citizens to identify and nominate unsung heroes. Special emphasis is being placed on recognizing talented individuals from weaker sections of society, including women, SCs, STs, and divyang persons who have performed selfless service. Interested parties can find detailed rules and statutes on the official Padma Awards and Ministry of Home Affairs websites.
